Alcest - Écailles De Lune

Artist: Alcest
Album: Écailles De Lune

I have always enjoyed listening to metal, although in the past year I can't say I have listened to much black metal/atmospheric, so I'm glad I was recommended this album. Well firstly, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this album it was very refreshing and well made. Each of the songs stood out on their own even Abysses which only clocked in at about 1:40 was delightful to listen too. The atmosphere and mood created by each of the songs was very good, I also loved how it switched back and forth from fast paced metal with brutal screams to ethereal almost haunting atmospheric sounds. Also the singers voice caught me off guard, I was not expecting such a beautiful voice, it reminds me so much of Sigur Rós - which is a very good thing. All the songs on the album were great but the high points for me would have to be Écailles De Lune (Part II) and Sur L'Océan Couleur De Fer. Overall this was a captivating album and I will definitely be listening to it again (Thanks for the suggestion tds418 ). Even if you are not into metal I would still suggest you listen to this album.

First off, I know nothing about Psychedelic Rock, or music from the 60s in general. The only thing in my library from the era is Jimi Hendrix, and while I enjoy a couple of his songs, a lot of them just don't appeal to me. Unfortunately, I felt the same way about Big Brother & The Holding Company. There were songs that liked (Intruder, The Last Time, Blindman), but ultimately, everything sounded the same and there wasn't enough there to really catch my attention. I can see that Janis Joplin was talented and put a lot of emotion into her singing, but I just couldn't get into the music.

Man, writing a review is hard.
And thanks for the recommendation WichtaQ. I'm sorry I didn't really like it.
